JUDMENT DAY ( JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST)

Heb 9:27 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this {comes}judgment,”

• Ps 37:38 But transgressors will be altogether destroyed; The posterity of the wicked will be cut off.

• John 3:16 ¶ "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

• Rom 2:5,6 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS:

God’s wrath is your choice- The choice has consequences. If you disobey the Lord, God’s wrath is your choice.

• James 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows {the} right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.
• James 3:1 Let not many {of you} become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.
• Gen 3:14-19 The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you." Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. "Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; “By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return."

Noah preached for 120 years. It was 200 miles away for the nearest river. He has a three point sermon:

1. It is going to rain

2. It is going to be bad rain

3. Get into the boat.

The people had chosen to reject the word of God. If you reject Christ- wrath of God.

PURPOSE OF WRATH OF GOD:

i. God is not inclusive- God hated Gossip, Rape, crime, adultery sin- Accountable before God

ii. Fear of God- Heb 12:28,29- Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.

iii. Produce praise.

4- judgments:-

1. Judgment for sin at the cross

John 1:29 ¶ The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

John 11:26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

The heart of the Christian faith and message is the cross of Christ. And at the heart of the cross is the self-substitution of God. At the cross, the God of the universe bore the full weight the wrath of God, the full punishment of sin and evil. The horrors of the cross, reflects the horrors of sin.

The Cross of Christ is the revealed truth of God’s judgment on sin. Never associate the idea of martyrdom with the Cross of Christ. It was the supreme triumph, and it shook the very foundations of hell. There is nothing in time or eternity more absolutely certain and irrefutable than what Jesus Christ accomplished on the Cross— He made it possible for the entire human race to be brought back into a right-standing relationship with God. He made redemption the foundation of human life; that is, He made a way for every person to have fellowship with God.

The Cross was not something that happened to Jesus— He came to die; the Cross was His purpose in coming. He is "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" ( Revelation 13:8 ). The incarnation of Christ would have no meaning without the Cross. Beware of separating "God was manifested in the flesh. . ." from ". . . He made Him. . . to be sin for us. . ." ( 1 Timothy 3:16 ; 2 Corinthians 5:21 ). The purpose of the incarnation was redemption. God came in the flesh to take sin away, not to accomplish something for Himself. The Cross is the central event in time and eternity, and the answer to all the problems of both.

The Cross is not the cross of a man, but the Cross of God, and it can never be fully comprehended through human experience. The Cross is God exhibiting His nature. It is the gate through which any and every individual can enter into oneness with God. But it is not a gate we pass right through; it is one where we abide in the life that is found there.The heart of salvation is the Cross of Christ. The reason salvation is so easy to obtain is that it cost God so much. The Cross was the place where God and sinful man merged with a tremendous collision and where the way to life was opened. But all the cost and pain of the collision was absorbed by the heart of God.

-- Not Required in this section “Blotting out the handwriting of Ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His Cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:14,15

Jesus offered Himself as a Perfect, Sinless Sacrifice at Calvary to atone our sin, Past, Present and Future sin once and for all. Took our guilt of breaking of God’s Perfect Holy Law and nailing it to His Cross...He took our place of punishment at the Cross, the judgment of God fell on Him instead on us...if the judgment fell on us, we’re done. We’re history. We’re finish. But God loved us so very much that He gave up His Only Begotten Son for us.

So God the Son, Jesus, had to leave Heaven, born of a virgin name Mary, lived 33 and a half years without sinning once, offered Himself as a Sinless, Spotless, Pure Lamb of God at the Cross which God fully accepted once and for all time. Paid the Sin debt that was against God once and for all, setting all sinful mankind once and for all, at least to them that Believe, and in doing that Satan and all the Powers of Darkness were forever defeated at the Cross. With all sin atoned for by the Precious Shed Blood of Jesus, Satan’s power over mankind is gone forever. Satan is a defeated foe, he got no more power. And all one have to do is to Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did at the Cross will be Saved and totally set free from sin and delivered from Satan’s death grip once and for all.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (God the Holy Spirit). For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1,2.

As long as our Faith remains in Christ and the Cross every day for the rest of our natural lives we will stay Saved. No where in the Bible does it say that after becoming Born Again Christians, we can leave the Cross behind and go on to better things. It’s the Cross that brought us in and it’s the Cross that keeps us in.

When our Faith is not in Christ and the Cross, the Holy Spirit will not help us, we are operating in the Flesh with the sin nature coming back to life to dominate us once again and bringing us to deeper and deeper into sin. Any Faith outside the Cross of Christ will see ‘law of sin and death’ ruling in our hearts and lives.

When our Faith is in the Finished Work of Christ, God the Holy Spirit will empower you to overcome sin and empower you to live in total Victory on a continual basis for Him. You will know what’s it’s like to live a ‘more abundant life’ in Christ. This is Walking after the Spirit when our Faith is in Christ and the Cross.

Beware of Preachers that do not preach that our Faith must forever be in the Finished Work of Christ at the Cross and the Resurrection only. They are False Preachers; False Apostles; False Prophets. They are preaching Another Jesus which is not the Jesus of the Bible, they are preaching from Another Gospel which is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified, and their anointing is not from the Holy Spirit, but from spirits, or demon spirits. They may promise you Liberty but they themselves are in bondage to sin. They do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ.

Everything you need is found ONLY in the Cross of Christ!!! Your Faith must ever remain in the Finished Work of Christ for God the Holy Spirit to empower you to overcome every sin and failure in your lives and to empower you to grow in the Grace and in the Knowledge of God. Your lives will Glorify God because of your Faith is in Christ and Him Crucified. And you will be ready to meet Christ in the air at the Rapture of the Church without fear or worry.

As we are ready and waiting for the Rapture of the Church, God will then begin to fully use you as He should because of your Faith in Christ and the Cross. Maybe you are an Apostle; or a Prophet; or Evangelist; or a Teacher; or a Pastor. God is calling you to Holy Ghost Anointed Office. Or maybe God is calling you to serve Him in one of the Nine Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Either way, God can and will use us fully if our Faith is in Christ and the Cross and we surrender ourselves to His full control

But why must it be Jesus Christ who dies for our sins? Can't God not just send someone else to die for us? What do you think must be the requirements for that person in order to die in our place for the consequences of our sins? There are four requirements.

First, sinless, because if this person is sinful, then his death can only cover his own sinful consequence not others.

Second, volunteer, this person must be willingly to give up his life voluntarily and not on force or else it would be murder!

Third, the substitute must be a man (not an animal), because it is humanity that has sinned against God, and no one ought to pay the penalty of sin other than humanity. The person that pay for the penalty must be able to represent the human race, because it is man that has sinned against God. Angels and animals cannot represent the human race. Only a human being can represent the human race to receive the punishment of humanity’s sin.

Fourth, God, because no can pay the penalty of sin other than God. The value of the life of a single man is of limited value, he can pay at most for one or two person’s sin. But only God’s life is of infinite value and only his sacrifice can pay for all of humanity’s sin.

Hence this substitute must be a sinless God-man, willing to volunteer himself to die for the sins of humanity. Not a mixture of man and God like a hybrid (a hybrid is neither God nor man), but rather fully God and fully man.

2. Judgment of the believers at the seat of Christ

Thot: “It is not WHERE you will spend your eternity but HOW will you spend your eternity”

2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

- Only believers

“We”- the Church

It will take place instantly after the rapture. We will be judged concerning our life. This is to be a judgment with reference to the works, not the salvation, of the believer. ( John 5:24)

This judgment of believers will be a judgement to evaluate and bestow various degree of reward

It is called “the judgment seat of Christ” That the saints are here referred to is clear from
2 Cor 5:1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Cor 5:5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

2 Cor 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight--

2 Cor 5:9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

1 Cor 4:5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, {but wait} until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of {men's} hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God.

It says that those who are judged “shall have peace of God”. This is

not true of the wicked. This is a judgment, not for destiny, but for adjustment, for reward or loss according to our works, for position in the kingdom, every man according as his work shall be.

As Christians "we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ" (ROM 14:10) to "receive the things done in our body, according to that we have done, whether it be good or bad" (2C0 5:10). As we stand before Christ at this "Bema Judgement" or "Judgement Seat of Christ" we will be so awestruck, that like the Apostle John we will all "fall at his feet as dead" (REV 1:17). And before every other child of God, each one of us will hear the report of every thought or deed of ours that will be read out of the "book of remembrance" (MAL 3:16).

There needs to be no hurry to do this because we have left the world of time and entered into eternity.

The great American scholar, Daniel Webster, said "I've thought about many things, but the most awesome, the most terrifying, the most shattering thought I've ever had, is my personal accountability to God one day".

"Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men" to be careful of their every thought and action (2C0 5: 11).

Let us, like Jonathan Edwards, pray "Oh God, stamp eternity on my eyeballs".

1 Cor 3:8-15

1 Cor 3:8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

1 Cor 3:9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

1 Cor 3:10 ¶ According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.

1 Cor 3:11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Cor 3:12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

1 Cor 3:13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is {to be} revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.

1 Cor 3:14 If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.

1 Cor 3:15 If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

1 Cor 3:13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is {to be} revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.

Quality not Quantity: Paul warns us to "take heed how we build" (1 CO 3:10). The foundation of all Christian work must be Jesus Christ (I CO 3:11), ie, unless Jesus Christ is received as Saviour, a man's works will be unacceptable to God, nor will he desire to do anything for Christ, nor have the strength to do so.

After we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we then do works for Him that may be either like "gold, silver, precious stones, wood hay, or stubble" (I CO 3:12),. There are six types of substance. Smell of smoke in your snuff test

Of the six different kinds of works that we may offer, three will be burned to ashes on the Day of Judgement (1 CO 3:13) as we stand before "our God who is a consuming fire" (HEB 12:29).

This picture of a consuming fire was very striking to the Corinthians when they received this epistle from Paul because they had recently experienced a huge fire in their city - and seen the wooden houses and combustible possessions reduced to ashes, while the brick houses and non-combustible possessions remained relatively unaffected by the fire.

Wood, hay and stubble are materials that are easily obtained and therefore found in large quantities, and are found above the ground. They speak of works that are relatively easy to do, and that are highly visible.

ü Check our motive, whether it was to obtain man's praise?

ü Did we do our works in such a way so as to impress others?

ü Did we choose to do our work the easy, compromising comfortable way?

ü Were we exercising the talents that God has given us, in the ministry that He had called us to?

ü Or did we decide to choose a more convenient, glamorous or easy one?

ü Were we offering our strength and resources sacrificially?

ü Or were we simply giving God our spares?

Are we accumulating huge quantities of such service for the Day of Judgement to be found that they were done for man's praises, done in man's ways, or done merely to satisfy our consciences - and therefore,undeserving of any reward from God.

There is a great temptation to accumulate such works, and we must be careful not to be deceived by the large quantity of such works.

Gold, silver and precious stones besides being non-combustible, are also hard to obtain, and found below ground. These speak of works that we do for God that will be found on the Day of Judgement to be for Him and pleasing to Him - such works are often not visible to men, and therefore far harder to do (because we are mostly motivated by man's praise, rather than God's)

When we give money we must be careful that we do not do it to show-off, otherwise we have already obtained our reward of honour from our fellow men (MAT 62-4). Similarly, we must be careful not to show-off our knowledge, spirituality, zeal, or eloquence when we preach, or pray (MAT 6.5,6).

When we worship, we must be careful not to do it for self entertainment, others' entertainment, or to show-off.

In all our motives and deeds God's glory must be our sole aim - sola Gloria Dei and God's method our sole method. Such works are much harder to do, and much less visible to others yet so much more profitable for both now and eternity. The constant unseen battle in our hearts against sin, will be amply rewarded in this life and the next. The quiet adoration of God as we stand in awe of Him in our personal meditations - will not only strengthen us as we face life's trials, but will also reap eternal rewards. The agonizing prayers in our closets will he unimaginably profitable for this life and the next. This does not mean that works done publicly will be unrewarded, but rather that we must be careful that they are done for His glory and pleasure

The inner motives of our hearts will be disclosed on that day (1 Cor 4:5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, {but wait} until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of {men's} hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God.)

The things in our life which have no eternal value (ie the dead works in our life) will burn like wood , hay and straw in the fire of the holy spirit that day. Only those things which the spirit of God has worked on us and through us, will persist as god, silver and precious stone after passing through the fire of God

Conclusion: Though every Christian will have eternal life in heaven, and though there will be no envy in heaven, yet there will be clear distinctions between believers in heaven according to our rewards. May we strive for the eternal crowns of glory that God has prepared for us (2TI 4:8, ITH 2:19, JAM 1:12, REV 2:10).

A W Tozer said of this Bema Judgement that "We'll gaze on eternity and say, "Look at all the riches there were in Jesus Christ, and I've come to the Judgement Seat almost a pauper".

Judgment of the nations-

This is going to take place at the end of tribulation. It will take place in the second coming of Christ i.e. 7 years after the tribulation.

The basis of Judgment will be “how nations treat the Jews”

God made a covenant with Abraham so that all the earth would be blessed through him. Abraham and his descendants were to represent God in the earth.

• So God promised Abraham, "I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you..." Gen. 12:3

• He confirmed the promise to Jacob, Gen. 27:29,

• and to all Israel, Num. 24:9.

The Bible makes it clear that the Jewish people are not better than other peoples, but they have been chosen for a particular purpose. God Himself promised to judge Israel more severely than other peoples. "You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins." Amos 3:2

But He also makes it clear that whoever touches Israel touches the apple of His eye. Zech. 2:8

At the end of this age, He will judge all the nations of the earth for how they have treated the Jewish people.

Yeshua spoke of this judgment that will take place after his return to destroy the nations that have gathered together against Jerusalem and her children. "All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats." Matt. 25:32

When Christ returns, there will be people alive on earth. They will be the survivors of the tribulation. Some will be saved and others not. Matthew 25:32 says, "Before him shall be gathered all the nations; and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats." All the people will be separated into one of two categories: the sheep (Christians) or the goats (non-Christians). From there they will go on to their eternal destiny. The sheep will go the heaven, and the goats will go to hell. The category they go into will be determined by their relationship

He will judge them according to God's promise to bless those who bless the Jewish people and curse those who curse them.

"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Matt. 25:40

"Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me." Mt.25:45

Joel 3:2 I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land.

Joel pictures a great judgment day for the nations -- he singles out those in his day who were exceptionally arrogant, exploitive, unjust, and violent. Their deeds will come back upon their heads -- they have "shed innocent blood in their land." They may be powerful nations, but their time will come.

The nations judged on the basis of their treatment of God's

people ("inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren")

Jesus today reminds us that his family is determined, not by biological relationship, but rather by our obedience -- by our actions. It is not anywhere near enough to simply say, "Lord, Lord," we must not only hear, but respond with metanoia -- a fundamental change in the way we see life, the universe, and everything. We can put "In God We Trust" on our money all day long, but it is nothing less than blasphemy in the absence of our own response of obedience to the Lord's call.

Deut 28:21 "The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land where you are entering to possess it.- The curse of incurable plague – AIDS, Bird Flu

Ps 91:7 A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, {But} it shall not approach you.

Deut 28:24 "The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.- The curse of sustained drought

Deut 28:25 ¶ "The LORD shall cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways before them, and you will be {an example of} terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.- The curse of weak enemies destroying you

LESSONS FROM THE JUDGMENT OF THE NATIONS

   A. THERE WILL BE A DAY OF JUDGMENT...

      1. Just as the Lord has judged nations throughout history

      2. So He will judge the world at the end of time, at the Last Day

         a. Jesus often spoke of the Judgment - e.g., Mt 12:36-37,

            41-42; Jn 12:47-48

         b. Paul also - e.g., Ac 17:30-31; 24:25; Ro 2:3-6; 14:10; 

            2 Co 5:10; 2 Ti 4:1

     c. Others as well - e.g., He 9:27; 1 Pe 4:5; 2 Pe 2:9; 3:7;

            1 Jn 4:17; Ju 6

      -- Are we preparing for the Day of Judgment?

   B. ONE ISSUE WILL BE HOW WE TREATED JESUS' BRETHREN...

      1. Of course, every deed, word, and thought will be judged (see

         above verses)

      2. But our text reminds us how Jesus takes the treatment of His

         brethren - Mt 25:40,45

         a. "as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren,

            you did it to Me"

         b. "as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did

not do it to Me"

“IT IS FINISHED”

"Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." John 19:28-30, NIV.

"When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he gave up the ghost." - John 19:30

From all eternity, God willed to make man to the image of His eternal son. After having painted the heavens with blue and the earth was green, God then made a garden, beautiful as only God then made a garden beautiful and it he placed man to conform to the image of God’s Son? In some mysterious way the revolt of Lucifer echoed to earth, and the image of God in man was blurred and ruined.

The Heavenly Father in His divine mercy willed to restore man to his pristine glory. In order that the portrait might once be true to the Original, God willed to send to earth His Divine Son according to whose image man was made, that the earth might see once more the manner of man God wanted us to be. In the accomplishment of this task, only Divine Omnipotence could use the elements of defeat as the element of victory.

The artist had put the last touch on His masterpiece and with the joy of the strong, He uttered the song of triumph: “It is finished”

The sixth cry from the cross consists of three words. The three words “it is finished” are the equivalent of the one Greek word, Tetelestai- Tetelestai.

Dr F.W. Boreham in his charming and illuminating way points out that it is a

1. farmers word

2. Artist’s word

3. Priestly word

And when in the fullness of time the lamb of God offered Himself a stainless perfect sacrifice, He cried with a loud voice, “ Tetelestai_ it is finished” and gave up the ghost.

"It is finished." What was "finished?

ü The need for sinners to repent? No indeed.

ü The need for turning to God from idols? No indeed.

ü The need for mortifying my members which are upon earth? No indeed.

ü The need for being sanctified wholly, in spirit, and soul, and body? No indeed.

ü Christ died not to make my sorrow for, hatred of, and striving against sin, useless. Christ died not to absolve me from the full discharge of my responsibilities unto God.

ü Christ died not so that I might go on retaining the friendship and fellowship of the world. How passing strange that any should think that He did. Yet the actions of many show that this is their idea.

"It is finished." What was "finished?"

The sacrificial types were accomplished, the prophecies, of His sufferings were fulfilled, the work given Him by the Father had been perfectly done, a sure foundation had been laid on which a righteous God could pardon the vilest transgressor of the law who threw down the weapons of his warfare against Him. Christ had now performed all that was necessary in order for the Holy Spirit to come and work in the hearts of His people; convincing them of their rebellion, slaying their enmity against God, and producing in them a loving and obedient heart.

A SUFFERING WAS ENDED. The cup of suffering was indeed full for Him! As MAclaren beautifully says, “Having drained the cup, he held it up inverted when He said ‘it is finished!’ and not a drop tricked down the edge. He drank it all that we might never need to drink it.”

A REVELATION WAS FINALIZED. What was the purpose of our Lord’s advent? Was it not that He might reveal the Father? John 1:18

A SACRIFICES WERE CONSUMMATED. The animal sacrifice did not atone the sins but it covered the sin. But in the death of Christ the centuries of sacrifice found their culmination.

Heb 10:11 ¶ Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins;

Heb 10:12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD,

He had at length offered up the perfect sacrifice, wrote Bishop Ryle, “of which every Mosaic sacrifice was a type and symbol, and there remained no more need of offering for sin. The Old Covenant is finished’

A THE FATHER’S WILL WAS FULFILLED: John 4:34 Jesus *said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. “ I HAVE FINISHED THE WORK WHICH THOU GAVEST ME TO DO”, was His complacent verdict at the end of life. He could review the whole approvingly, conscious that in every detail His Father’s will had been faithfully carried out, even though, it involved a shameful cross for Him. He alone, of all mankind, could look back upon a finished work.

A SATAN WAS DEFEATED. The unifying theme of the scriptures is the conflict between God and Satan and its triumphant issue. On the cross he launched his final blitzkrieg against the Seed of the woman, which was to bruise his head, and it looked as though he had achieved a victory: but instead

He hell in hell laid low

He death by dying slew

“HE VANQUISHED SATAN” wrote the lat R.L. Moyer; “He broke open the grave; he led death captive; He closed the gated of hell, and opened the gates of heaven for the redeemed. The prince of this world has his conflict with righteousness, and righteousness won the fight. The moment of Satan triumph was the moment of his defeat. The victim on the cross became the Victor through the cross.”

A REDEMPTION WAS ACCOMPLISHED: To Him had been entrusted the most stupendous task of the ages- the redemption of a world of lost and enslaved men. What irrepressible joy surged through Him as He triumphantly cried, “It is finished”. Every obstacle between God and man removed. Every demand of the law satisfied. Nothing to be added, for the redemption He had secured was perfect and complete. The way to God was open to every son of Adam, and henceforth they could know Him as a God of love. The joy set before Him was already in sight, and now he could gladly summon His servant death, and dismiss His spirit.

CONCLUSION: His work is finished, but is ours? It belongs to God to use that word, but not to us. The work of acquiring Divine life for human kind is finished, but not the distribution.

He hath done this! It is finshed! Let us learn now to rest on the fact that He has done all, finshed all things necessary for our eternal salvation. Nothing remains for us to do but rest in faith on the finshed work of the cross which God has been pleased to accept.

Are we not satisfied when God is satisfied?

There was war between the goodness of Jesus and the evil one.
But, Jesus endured all things for us. It is finished. It is done.

He fasted forty days and nights, Satan tempting Him with things.
But, Jesus said not to tempt the Lord God, lest evil it brings.

He is the Son of God. He was here for our souls to save.
But, Satan was fighting to the end, Till all were in their grave.

I'm so glad I had Jesus on my side. Truth and goodness won.
It is finished. We shall go now to the Father, through the Son.

All who believe in His Holy Name and accept, with the mouth and heart,
This Son of the Father will never from your side part.

He said it was finished as He gave up the ghost, on that old hill;
Just as it will be finished for us, if we go to the Father, through the Son, His will.

He was on the old cross, upon a hill that day, praying - possibly again.
I do so thank Him. As He said, "It is finished, He paid for my sin."

I can, now, safely go through life; knowing I am hid in He,
Who said, "It is finished," when, on that old Cross-, He died for me.

While He was in the world, all, the, Father gave Him, He did keep.
None lost but Satan. Jesus was safely keeping His sheep.

He was the Blessed Shepherd, going against the mighty foe;
even, to the bottomless pit, for it to be finished, our Lord did go.

JERUSALEM:

Luke 19:41 ¶ When He approached {Jerusalem,} He saw the city and wept over it,Jerusalem- “city of Peace” or “foundations of peace.”

Jerusalem is a Holy City for the Worshipers of the One God. Jerusalem is a holy city for all the believers in the One God: Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Jerusalem was a Jebusite city, with no Jewish history, when King David captured it and dedicated it to the One God. David united the Northern and Southern kingdoms of Israel, so it was important to choose a central city that was not associated with either kingdom. Until then, the Jews had always worshiped and sacrificed at the Ark of the Covenant, which they carried with them as they traveled.

As a nation, we love parade don’t we? Peace march, Rallies, Procession, Victory rally etc. Jesus was entering Jerusalem for the last time. Jerusalem was His city of Destiny.

Our Lord’s coming to Jerusalem was an act of mercy and grace, not an act of justice and judgment. He did have salvation for them (John 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him).

Jesus did two things:

1. He declared Himself to be King and Messiah

2. He deliberately challenged the religious leaders.

Jesus had fixed His eyes to go to Jerusalem, and He knew exactly what was to happen to Him there as He had explained to His disciple in great detail in Luke 18:31-33.

During this time, it was preordained by God, that His Son would enter the city of Jerusalem as King, be recognized as a Prophet and have zeal for God’s house as a Priest and a Judge. During this Passover in Jerusalem, Jesus would be arrested, crucified and rise from the dead. It was the triumphant Entry into Jerusalem that initiated all these events.

The first time the King came , He came riding on a donkey ( Matt 21:5-7)

When the King comes again to earth- he will come in a white horse ( Rev 19:11)

The 1^st time it was the cross, the 2^nd time it will be the crown, the King is Coming ( rev 1:7; Matt 21:27)

Luke 19:41 ¶ When He approached {Jerusalem,} He saw the city and wept over it,

• LOOKED BACK: He saw how the nation had wasted its opportunities and been ignorant of their time of visitation.

• LOOKED WITHIN: Spiritual ignorance and blindness in the heart of the people.

• LOOKED AROUND- Jesus saw religious activity that accomplished very little. The temple had become a den of thieves and the religious leaders were out to kill Him.

• LOOKED AHEAD: He wept and He saw the terrible judgment that was coming to the nation, the city, and the temple. In AD 70, the Romans would come and after a siege of 143 days, kill 600000 Jews, take thousand more captive and then destroy the temple and the city.

The next time Jesus is again going to enter Jerusalem

Is 33:20 Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an undisturbed habitation, A tent which will not be folded; Its stakes will never be pulled up, Nor any of its cords be torn apart.

As a prophecy, this has never been fulfilled as pious hope it may be fulfilled at some future time. Most Christian resort to the belief in a “new Jerusalem” which is waiting in the clouds to descend to earth at the right time.

A Jerusalem will be the center of the world

Jer 3:17 "At that time they will call Jerusalem 'The Throne of the LORD,' and all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the name of the LORD; nor will they walk anymore after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

Jer 3:18 "In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers as an inheritance.

The next time Israel sees the king, He will ride in great power and glory (Rev 19:11 ¶ And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it {is} called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.)

There is no room to doubt that the Rider of this "white horse" is any other than the Lord Jesus Christ. But He will appear thus at His second advent. Then everything shall be changed. He who came before in humiliation and shame shall return in power and majesty. He who once had not where to lay His head shall then sit on the throne of His glory (Matthew 25:31). He who was nailed to a malefactor’s Cross shall, in that day, wield the scepter of imperial dominion. Just as the "ass" was well suited to the One who had laid aside His glory, so the white "war-horse" of Revelation 19 is in perfect keeping with the fact that He is now "crowned with glory and honor."

If Jesus comes to our church,home, what will He do?

GETHSEMANE!

Matt 26:38 Then He *said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me."

Only a few minutes before the prayer in the garden, Our Lord had offered His High- Priestly prayer: but what a striking difference that is between the two! How explain the serenity of the one and the agonizing of the other? The first was intercessory; this was personal- the prelude the Calvary.

He had partaken the Lord supper and sung a hymn with His disciples before entering the garden.

The place of His prayer was most appropriately named GETHSEMANE, the oil press, for did not our saviour under the pressure of a great agony yield precious oil that has been the balm of many a wounded soul? Leaving His disciples, Jesus penetrated a little further into the garden” and began to be sorrowful and very heavy”

THE POIGNANCY OF HIS SUFFERING:

The writer of the gospel presents six clauses, each of which presents a different facet of our Savior’s suffering, and each is worthy of reverent examination, although we do not presume to understand or explain their full import.

• Matt 26:38 Then He *said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me."

He began to be “exceedingly sorrowful” or “pressed upon”. He had ever been a ‘man of sorrows’, but now He enters upon sorrow of such degree that everything that He had endured in the past paled into insignificance, as mere ripples to the swelling billows which now engulfed Him.

• Mark 14:33 And He *took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled.

“………. He began to be struck with terror and amazement and deeply troubled and depressed” (AMP)

He began to be “very heavy”, “deeply troubled”. Lightfoot suggests that this word points to a confused, restless, half –distracted state, while another commentator suggests the root idea is that of being “away from home”, and so “beside oneself” And was it not the fact that in a very real sense He was away from home, which made His suffering the more poignant.

• He began to be struck with terror and amazement, “stunned with amazement” or “utterly surprised”

H.B Swete said, “The Lord’s first feeling was one of terrified surprise. Long as He had foreseen the Passion, when it came closely in view, its terrors exceeded His

anticipations. His human soul received a new experience and the last lesson of obedience began with a sensation of inconceivable awe” As He saw the ingredients of the terrible cup, which was being mixed for Him, He was startled and stunned.

• Mark 14:34 And He *said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch."

It points to an unfathomable depth of anguish and sorrow. He who after the wilderness temptation had left our Lord for a season (Luke 4:3 And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.") had now returned and tempted Him with “all painful things, as before with all pleasurable, hoping to terrify, if it might be, from His allegiance to the truth, Him who manifestly he could not allure”- R.C.Trench.

“Point of death” or “Unto death”- The sorrow and agony were so tremendous that He was likely to collapse under the weight.

• Luke 22:44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.

He was “in agony” or “conflict” as the word is rendered in Col 2:1 “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face,”

The Hebrew epistle tells us that He prayed with “Heb 5:7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.

Heb 5:8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.” As the power of darkness closed in on Him, in a final endeavor to prevent His going to the cross. He was engaged in conflict the like of which he had never before experienced.

• His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. (Luke 22:44)]

Remember it was a cold night, but as He prayed in agony the course of nature was reversed and the blood, instead of rushing to the aid of the overcharged and breaking heart, was forced through the pores, to fall in great drops on the ground. My soul, stands in awe, and magnify His matchless love.

THE INGREDIENTS OF THE CUP

What were the ingredients of the cup of which He was to drink?

1. The renewed attack of Satan: Luke 22:53 "While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours." Foiled in every previous attempt to deflect the Lord from the way of the cross, the power of darkness launched a terrific onslaught, in one final attempt to overthrow Him. No mock battle this, but a struggle to the death between Light and darkness.

2. The loss of the light of His Father’s countenance. Why hast thou forsaken me? It was bad enough that He should be in an alien country, deserted by His followers, betrayed by His friend, denied by one of His inmates- but to be forsaken by God! This was an utterly new and bewildered experience, the anticipation of which produced this blood letting agony.

3. The assumption of the guilt of the world. “the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” Nothing less than penal suffering for our sin can explain His agony. Bishop Ryle writes , “I believe that this view is the only reasonable soloution of our Lord’s agony………….. The experience in the garden is a knot which nothing can unite but the old doctrine of our sin being imputed to Christ, and Christ being made sin and a curse for us.” He drank “a cup of wrath without mercy in order that we might drink a cup of mercy without wrath.”

DESIRE OF YOUR HEART!

Psalm 37:1-7
To be like Jesus is the desire of my heart!
Do not fret! (NIV)
Do not worry! (NLT)
The word ‘fret’ is found 3 times i.e. vv 1, 7, 8
To fret means .............. That I am angry; I am disturbed. The root word for fretting and envying is the same meaning “being heated”
“Do not fret”- ‘I should not have been too agitated’. ‘Refrain from anger ‘can be understood in this context; ‘don’t get worked up over’.
Fretting is the culture of irritation that is prevalent in our modern age

Your desire affects every area of your life- your job, your family, your career etc.
Desire reveals your character- motive, actions. What do you think?
“Our inner thoughts are a lamp for the Lord, and they search our hearts. (Prov 20: 27
“What comes from inside is important”- Mark 7:20
It is nothing wrong to desire.
What is God’s desire for you? How to get it?
- God’s desire for you is to be saved
- He also wants us to know the truth (seek, read and pray)
- God’s desire the best for you- release from suffering, pain worry etc.
- God’s desire for you and me is to trust Him, to rely on Him. It is motivated by His love for us?
Are we willing to trust in His desires? As we desire, is it consistent, the best for my life?
E.g. To gets rich
Why do you want to get rich? - I Tim 6:9
It is the issue of what place it has in your life.
“Desire to get rich”-
ü It is to promote yourself! - You will have emptiness and disappointment
ü To help others, to be a blessing- contentment and satisfaction

What is the No 1, 2, 3 desire of your life?
As I had said before “Your desire impacts every area of your life.”
Ps 37:1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
Ps 37:2 For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb.
Ps 37:3 Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Ps 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Ps 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
Ps 37:6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
Ps 37:7 ¶ Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
What is the desire of your heart- healing! Free from pain, children, wife, husband, needs etc
The Psalmist states five beautiful verbs:-

• DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD
  Ps 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
  To delight means to be thankful, to be happy, exquisite delight, to make merry over.
  I delight in my wife or my son/daughter- I love her, she is no1 in my life
  The Psalmist here says, “DELIGHT in the LORD”. As one writer puts is “to delight in the Lord means “to delight in the character, will, and ways of God as means of increasing excellence, usefulness, and enjoyment”
  When the Psalmist said “He will give”- it sounds like a blank cheque reminiscent of what Jesus said “John 14:13, 14
  Do you love talking, listening and giving to the Father?
  Delight in God is to have pleasures in 0obeying Him. Our relationship with Him is paramount. When you delight in the Lord-, it overflows and the end result is the desire of your heart.
  
• COMMIT YOUR WAYS TO THE LORD
  Ps 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD,
  “Commit everything you do to the Lord”
  Commit- ‘roll on’
  The only path of peace – “commit your ways to the LORD”
  It is always better when He does it on His schedule. God will treat you beyond your expectation i.e. sickness, money, life partner, ministry, job.
  
  
• TRUST IN HIM
  Ps 37:5 Trust also in Him, and He will do it
  If you don’t trust Him, you cannot be committed.
  As Oswald Sanders said “ Trust in God does not mean that God will explain His solution to us, it means that we are perfectly confident in God and when we do see the solution we find it to be in accordance with all that Jesus Christ revealed of His character”
  Trust requires two components
  1. Character
  2. Competency
  
  When God says “Don’t go that way, Don’t do that”- TRUST HIM
  You cannot make God wrong because you think that wrong is right.
  - Don’t manipulate
  - The wheel of God’s judgment moves very slowly.
  
  
• REST IN THE LORD
  Ps 37:7 ¶ Rest in the LORD
  Rest mean: to cease from action; to be free from worry; to be settled; to be secure; to have something to lean on- rely on God for support , trusting Him to supply all your needs.
  “when you stop, God works
  When you let go, God begins”
  I am fully dependent on Him- show me the consequence of what happens if I don’t delight in Him.
  “My heart O Lord does not rest until it rest in you”
  -Augustine
  “There is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God”
  -Mc. Afee
  If it is the desire God want you to have- Rest in Him.
  “Rest is not inactivity, it is directed activity”
  If you are fretting about something in life- It means that God and I are not in disagreement.
  
  
• WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM
  Ps 37:7 …………………wait patiently for Him;
  Wait without murmuring, grumbling, complaining
  The more intently I desire, I find it more difficult to wait. I want to have and have it now- so what happens? WE FRET!!!!!
  The basic principle is Learning to wait, wait for God’s timing.
  You say, Lord, I want to trust you in wisdom, love, knowledge, etc.
  
  God knows what you and I desire. God also knows that some of our desire once achieved- we will regret.
  

WORSHIP &GIVING

GIVING & WORSHIP

The word Get is found roughly 600 times in the Bible but the word GIVE is found 15,600 times. Christianity is a religion of giving.
“No worship without giving. If we give we worship God.”
Worship is anything we do whose purpose is to praise and glorify God. We worship God with our mouths when we pray, tell others of His love, or sing to Him. We worship God with our bodies by eating right, bowing in prayer, or even dancing. We worship God with our money .

Isaiah 9:6 “unto us a Son is given
John 3:16 “……………… gave us His begotten son.”

God is the greatest of all givers. All that we have is given by God. To mankind he gave the breath of life (Gen 2:7) Employment (Gen 2:15, 16) Proper clothing (3:21) promise of redemption (3:15, 16) and a Covenant (9:12, 13)

******** Did you know that over 40% of what Jesus taught, in some way was connected to wealth and poverty, or the use or misuse of wealth, over 40% of his teachings! That should tell us something. It tells us that God and Jesus know that this is a very difficult thing for us; and that we need a lot of guidance

In the Bible people gave:
A Mary worshipped Jesus by giving the most costly ointment.
A Joseph of Aramathea gave his tomb.
A The small boy gave lunch to Jesus.
A Widow gave money.
God measures us not by what we give but what we keep.
Jesus made the boy lunch as large as heaven.

In the Old Testament Giving was a part of worship.In the New Testament Giving is the first fruit of repentance “Luke 3:11- And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise." John the Baptist talked money about repentance.
Martin Luther once said:
"People go through three conversions in the Christian faith: their head, their heart, and their pocketbook -- unfortunately, not all at the same time!"

ü Giving is indication of your commitment to God.
ü Giving is so often a root of Revival.



As we read the Bible, we find five types of giving:-
û Sacrifice to God.
û Tithes.
û First fruit.
û Free- will offering.
û Alms.

The best way to exercise worship is by giving and to give we need to sacrifice.

1. SACRIFICE TO GOD: Recognise of who God is? We bring sacrifice of praise unto the house of the Lord

2. TITHE: 10% of family income to support the priest and poor people. Legalistic tithe is not mentioned but shows about tithe.
Beside the tithe they had been told that from 9/10 of income- the 1st & 2nd year they should give to Levites and Priest and the 3rd year they have to given it to the poor.
1 Tim 5:17 ¶ The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

3. FIRST FRUIT: (32 times in the Bible) The first fruit offering honors God and gives you the power and anointing to get wealth according to the word of God. The Bible references first fruits or first things or devoted things no less than 32 times.

"First fruits" is not the same as tithe. Tithe is the first tenth. First fruits is the whole... the root... the foundation.
"For if the first fruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches." — Romans 11:16
When you offer God your first fruits and bring Him the fullness of the first, you establish the foundation that the "whole thing" — your entire life — will be holy and blessed.

“First fruit is not an offering but a pattern but it cannot be activated without and offering”
Therefore, the first fruit is an
$ An act of worship ( Go before nostrils of God)
$ A declaration of blessing ( Blessing – (Hb )- prosperity
$ First fruit is devoted, holy and first belongs to God
Ex 13:1,2 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me."
Q Brought the first harvest
Q Anything belongs to God, He will always lay claim to it.
Q Pattern flows position and position follows possession.

Rom 11:16 If the first piece {of dough} is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.

Ezek 44:30 "The first of all the first fruits of every kind and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests; you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough to cause a blessing to rest on your house.”
What you do with the first determines the rest. To biblically position yourself for your first fruits blessing in 2007, give your very best to the Lord's work today as your first fruits offering.

4. FREE –WILL OFFERING :( The word offering occurs 754 times in the Bible.
“Offerings” " 265 times in the Bible”. Think about it?)
It was given to projects, building of temples. The free will offering are no tithes but as the Holy Spirit stirred their heart. It is a spiritual giving and not emotional (soul) giving
Acts 2:45:- “and they {began} selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.”
Barnabas gave freely but Ananias & Sapphira gave part of it, in public they showed that they have given in full. They did not admit that they have kept a part of it.
Worship God in honesty where it is sacrifice through praise, or tithe, or free will offering or the offering of the 1st fruit.
Paul final speech to the Ephesians church was a giving text (Acts 20).
Acts 20:35 "In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
John 12:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
“Giving bring happiness and cannot buy happiness
Giving bring growth and cannot but growth.”

5. ALMS: Giving that is to a needy individual or family.
Deuteronomy 15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
Acts 10:1- 4 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian [band], [A] devout [man], and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

Several points of interest:
ü when you fear (respect) God, and are concerned with pleasing him, you will give to those in need from time to time.
ü God always honors obedience with Spiritual blessing.
ü Our praying & our giving are a memorial to us before God.
Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all [men], especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Though we should give to those who have needs, be careful that you don't get taken advantage of by someone who is merely lazy. Often the best way is to give an offering through the church "designated" to a family or need. That way you get properly receipted from the church, but most importantly, sometimes the Pastor or staff may know more about the situation than you do. They may council you to give in another manner.
*** From time to time in the church, you will get a call from the secretary saying there is someone in the church who is in need of food or whatever. Please do your best to cooperate with the effort even if your short yourself. God will bless your faith & love!

How much should I give in an offering?
Well, How much do you love God? How much do you want a blessing?
I can tell you this as a guideline...
II Corinthians 9:6- 8 “But this [I say], He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
